Summary: Under new management as of June 2025, the Gainesville Lodge seems to be positioning itself as “boutique accommodations,” according to a news article. The reality is very different. I’ve stayed here for years due to its convenient distance to the University of Florida, as it was always a no-frills place to rest.
The new owners have made cosmetic changes like painting the building, new towels, new bedding and adding combination door locks, but there have been no real upgrades. The room furnishings remain the same the bathrooms remain dated and need renovation. Basic amenities are gone—no microwave. There was never coffee service in the room nor breakfast offered and the pool was filled in years ago.
Although our room was designated non-smoking, it smelled strongly of smoke, which made our stay uncomfortable.
Most concerning is the pricing: I requested a room for a football weekend and was quoted $1,300 for one night. The location is good, but the value simply isn’t there. The lodge is tolerable due to convenience, but under current management, it’s overpriced.

Summary: The only two things I liked about the room was price and the mattress. The mattress slept very well. On the other hand, the frame in which the mattress lay made a lot of noise. There aren’t any unique features about the room. Everything is outdated including the motel itself. The furniture is dirty and the AC unit is very noisy and keeps you up all night pretty much. To access the controls to the AC you will have to stand on a chair in order to reach them. That’s dangerous. Because of their rules, you can’t bring any of your personal appliances for example, an air fryer to use. That’s disappointing.

Summary: My 2nd stay at Gainesville Lodge. It’s conveniently located for my visits. Safe, Clean, Parking, walk to restaurants. Not stylish or modern, rooms are dated & a little dark. Quite ok for a short stay.

Summary: This is a fairly basic motel but perfectly fine, clean and comfortable, in an unbeatable location downtown. Rooms are set back a bit from the street so they stay quiet. The parking is enclosed and seems very secure. For me the biggest drawback was loud and fairly ineffective air-conditioning (although it did work). I would definitely stay again.

Summary: Graduation day at university stay over. Expensive for what you get. No frills of any kind. Very spartan and cheap. However, people checking you in were nice, room was very clean. This is what happens when you wait too long to reserve a room.,
