My name is Gaia, and I am delighted to be your host during your stay in Sandpiper's Cottage. I'm originally from Slovenia and have lived for many years first in Colorado and then in New York City. I own an online boutique for Argentine Tango dance shoes (yes, they are beautiful!) but my heart is in hospitality. After a long corporate career I decided to put my passion to work for you and become an VRBO host. When I visited Gulfport I knew I wanted to live in this old-Florida paradise and after finding the perfect property for all of us, here we are! SANDPIPER'S COTTAGE
We were so lucky to have found a property with a space for visiting family and friends. And that means you! Your cottage is a completely re-decorated private, 400 sq ft studio apartment. It is attached to the main house and has two private entrances (main door and sliding door to the private patio). It is located on the ground floor. It is freshly painted from high ceilings to the saltillo tile floors, and tastefully furnished in coastal fashion. This studio cottage has a unique and calming charm with many amenities and features for a very comfortable and pleasant stay. The cottage is fully air-conditioned, has a ceiling fan for your comfort, large windows & sliding doors to let in the balmy Florida air, and is equipped with a strong Wi-Fi.
LIVING AREA
Coastal living is all about ease, comfort, and relaxation. With new tasteful furnishings and charming accents happily found at the local antique shops, you will instantly feel the Gulfport vibe. The large windows let in plenty of Florida sunshine. A wall-mounted TV has both local and cable channels; we provide Hulu live streaming and you can also access Netflix or Amazon Prime with your login.
A full-size sliding door opens to your private patio, surrounded with greenery and flowers, where you can enjoy your morning coffee, have a cocktail after beach time, or invite friends over for a chat. Comfortable patio furniture makes your patio an extension of the living area and a lovely space to use at any time of the day or evening.
BATHROOM
Clean, fresh, with new fixtures, it has a window to let in plenty of light. The color and furnishing accents won't let you forget you are visiting the Sunshine State. A corner shower, plenty of shelving and storage for your items, new soft towels, and essential amenities (soap, shampoo, shower gel) complete this easy and comfortable space. A hair dryer is also included.
SLEEPING AREA
When it comes to bedrooms, calm and romantic wins the day (and night, of course!). The paintings and posters were carefully sourced from local antique shops and give this area of the studio a touch of whimsy yet allow you to de-stress and de-compress. A custom Tufts & Needle queen size mattress with pillows of various softness makes for a calming rest space. A closet with mirrored doors and hanging rod & hangers completes your home-away-from-home space.
OUTDOOR AREA
Enjoy your private patio with patio furniture and a sun umbrella. This is a perfect spot for a morning yoga or a sundowner cocktail. In the shared north garden outside the cottage there is a shady pergola with a dining table for four and a BBQ area with a Weber gas grill. You can also enjoy the garden's flora and fauna - we have lots of butterflies and birds visiting at all times of the day. We also have an outdoor shower!
LAUNDRY
We have a shared washer and dryer available for your use and provide laundry detergent.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Upon arrival, you can easily access the guesthouse with a keyless secure door code that will be communicated to you prior to arrival and will be easy to remember; no need for an in-person key exchange. Your cottage will be professionally cleaned and ready for you to enjoy. You can expect all the comforts of home, including soap, paper products, towels, and linens. Your cottage includes a home manual providing specific details about your space and the property, WiFi access information, TV instructions, local suggestions, and more.
GUEST ACCESS
Your guesthouse has a terrace by the entry door and also a private patio for your use only. In addition to this private space, there are shared areas and amenities you can access at all times. You will have ample parking space for your car or van. The entrance to your cottage is on the north side of the property and the surrounding garden is a common space offered to you to enjoy and use as you desire. There is a table with four chairs under a shady pergola, and we have a Weber gas grill at your disposal. We have two cruiser bikes on the property you can use to bike around town, it is such a fun activity and a great way to discover our friendly community!
GUEST INTERACTION
We live on the property in the main house; we have a separate building, entrance, driveway, and south garden. We give our guests privacy in the north garden. We can be available to you as much or as little as you would like, and definitely at all times with any questions or needs you may have.
NEIGHBORHOOD OVERVIEW
Sandpiper's Cottage is located in the desired Arts District in Gulfport. It is an easy 5-8 minutes walk from the town's main street and 6 blocks from Gulfport's Casino and beach. There is a lovely park just 2 blocks from the house with a lake and water fountain in the center that is often lighted at night. A small but well-stocked convenience store is located next to the park.
From the property you have easy access to everything wonderful this area has to offer: in Gulfport you can walk to the beach, award winning restaurants, side walk cafes, shops, fishing pier, famous beachfront dance Casino, lighted tennis court, doggy parks, several town parks, active senior center with state of the art fitness center, marina, playgrounds, weekly fresh market, and many art happenings and fairs. You are approx. 2 miles to I-275, 15 minutes to downtown St. Petersburg, 25 minutes to Tampa International Airport, 2 hours to Disney attractions. Of course, coming to this area is also all about the amazing St. Pete/Clearwater beaches - they are just minutes away by car (or try Gulfport's little beach a few blocks from the guesthouse, it is perfect for sunbathing!).
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
Please note:
- For all confirmed reservations, we require a signed rental agreement (which we'll send to you via email) and a copy of the government issued ID to allow access to the property. No access code will be provided without receipt of these items prior to arrival.
- We happily welcome your small pet, with prior approval and with a $50 per pet non-refundable fee, payable at the time of arrival with cash or credit card. This fee is for a stay of up to 30 days and will be assessed again for each subsequent up to 30-day increment. Please be considerate where your pet pees and poops - our gardens are full of edible plants and fruit trees/bushes, we ask that your pet eliminates only on the grassy areas outside of the garden and the edible landscape. Please pick up after your pet, you can deposit the baggies in the trash cans situated behind the shed. The property is not fully fenced in and dogs must be on leash at all times in the common areas, as well as not left unaccompanied while guests are not on the property.
- On the property there is another separate one-bedroom apartment we rent to guests with its own private entrance and outdoor space. You can see it on the VRBO website under Property ID 1441925. All guests - and we - can access and use shared outdoor areas and laundry amenities.
