Listen to the birdsong as you sip your coffee on the spacious deck, take off to town or the woods for a daytime adventure, and come back to snuggle up to the fire and rest. Just minutes from Marshall, NC, the French Broad River, and the Appalachian Trail. 30 minutes from Asheville.

The Rectory is only 5 min away from the French Broad River and rafting, 15 min from Hot Springs and the Appalachian Trail, 45 min to Pisgah and Wolf Ridge Ski Resort.

Just a few miles down the road from the Walnut Community, you’ll find local whitewater rafting outfitters like Blue Heron Whitewater to guide you and your crew down the river. Trips with class II all the way to class IV rapids are available.

Mountain bikers will find beautiful trails like the Rich Mountain Fire Tower and River Road Ride just over the hill into Hot Springs.

Head south towards Asheville, where you’ll find abundant activities for all ages, like art galleries with pottery and paintings, unique shops, delicious food, hiking trails, the Biltmore Estate, the NC Arboretum, and more

The Rectory is a beautiful mid-century cottage-style home we’ve updated with custom details and amenities to ensure a comfortable, hassle-free stay for our guests.

It’s perfectly suited to families and adventurers and makes for a great weekend getaway or a longer immersion to soak up all that the Appalachian Mountains and Western North Carolina have to offer.

The house is full of natural light, and the brightness offers a sense of spaciousness and relaxation no matter where you are. The first bedroom has a cozy King, the second a comfy Queen, and the third two Single beds to accommodate a variety of guest needs. There’s an additional sleeping space on the pull-out sofa in the Living Room. Please note that both bathrooms are located at the ground floor, there are no restroom in the upper level.

From the bathrooms to the kitchen to the deck, the whole house is outfitted with all the essentials including linens, shampoo and soap, a full set of cookware, and Disney+ and Netflix, so you can relax and enjoy your stay without worrying about packing everything yourself. The 100'' Home Theater makes for a fantastic movie night, and the popcorn is complimentary! The washer and dryer are easy to access inside the cottage.

The delightful atmosphere flows out onto the deck and into the spacious yard too. Nestled among our little track of trees, a large outdoor deck provides a place to gather and relax and light up the grill if you’re in the mood too.

The backyard fire pit is set up for storytelling, a certain treat after all your daytime adventures. And it’s hard to miss the gorgeous view of the mountains that surround this peaceful abode.

Enjoy a comfortable temperature year-round with AC and heater in the Living Room and King Bedroom as well as a gas stove for cozy winter nights. The Queen and Single Bedrooms upstairs have independent heaters to keep you warm during winter nights and AC window units to keep things cool in the summer.

You’ll find yourself immersed in nature, even while indoors. It's not unusual to find small bugs inside, especially if doors are left open. Nothing to worry about, though!.

As this is a mostly rural area, mobile reception is challenging. Verizon works best here. We have Fiber Optic High Speed 1GB internet and work-from-home station set up so you can stay connected and productive during your stay if needed.

Summary: This property was perfect for us. It’s in the hills of NC so there are some dilapidated houses around but it’s a safe neighborhood. Hosts were quick to respond and property had all we needed, even a few treats upon arrival! Nice details with towels and toothbrushes neatly arranged. The only surprise is you are asked not to flush toilet paper, but we got used to that. Great mountain get away!
